Weapon description

COLT MODEL 1911 A1, manufacturer: Colt Patent Fire Arms Manufacturing Company, Caliber .45 ACP, seven rounds (magazine capacity). Made in 1943 and delivered to the United States Army in December 1943.

The pistol is marked in two locations on the left side. The first one closer to the muzzle contains patents in two lines that protect the weapon production PATENTED APR.20 I897 SEPT.9 I902 DEC. I9, I905. FEB.I4, I9II.AUG.I9, I9I3. The second location holds the manufacturer name – COLT´S PT. F.A.MFG.CO. and the second line also the manufacturer location – HARTFORD, CT. U.S.A., Hartford, Connecticut, USA. Colt trademark in the form of a prancing horse with two spears is in the middle.

On its right side, the weapon body above the trigger is marked with proprietary mark of the United States Army UNITED STATES PROPERTY and below it the weapon number, in the front with the abbreviation of the number derived from the Latin abbreviation №. Closer to the muzzle on the trigger guard root is the weapon type designation MI9IIAI U.S.ARMY.

The Armament Service final acceptance mark shaped as crossed cannon barrels with a flame in a circle with a belt is weakly stamped on the right side of the pistol body at the back by the trigger.

A personal mark of assembly worker number 41 is located on the trigger guard upper right side and a letter P on the left side on the trigger guard root, and below it is the faintly stamped factory verification mark V P in a triangle (Verified Proof). The Army Verification Mark P is located on the left side of the magazine release, from the top of the slide in front of the rear sight.

On the left below the slide catch is the abbreviation G.H.D. Brigadier General Guy H. Drewry, who commanded the acceptance of the pistols for the United States Army. The cartridge ejection port in the barrel is stamped with a .45 ACP caliber mark, a German N eagle and the Frankonia FWW mark.

The magazine corresponds to the manufacturer Risdon Tool & Die marked on the top of the magazine tip with letter R.
